Internet Safety
Internet Safety... Whenever I think about it I always rather doubt if you really can be safe on the internet. It feels like there are so many ways for outsider to invade our privacy and steal our information or accounts. There are ways however that I have learned and have used in my everyday life to prevent this stealing of information.
My information should not be public knowledge and neither should my server be. I find that it is smarter to input my financial and private information on a server that I own like at home. This lowers the chance that my information can be looked at and stolen.
Another way is to create passwords that are more than idiot-proof. Feel free to make them as complicated and as silly as you want but just make sure that you can either remember them or they are written down in a safe place where you know where to look for them.
I find it also a good precaution to not have my private information on my phone. My phone is something I take with me everywhere and as much as I value it and as much as I hate to admit it the chances of losing my phone are higher than the chances of me losing my laptop or desktop. Additionally if there is an information I feel the need to keep private on my phone I will make sure to keep the phone locked.
You consider gmail to be safe because it is Google? I receive spam all the time from sites that have somehow received my email address. It is best not to open any emails in your spam folder your email provider has set them aside because the contents within them are questionable.
To protect your computer from any viruses you come across whilst browsing the internet I suggest downloading a antivirus program that will periodically check your computer for any corrupted files and if there are any that are an imminent threat the program with fight against it.
In conclusion the smart idea is to take precautions to protect yourself whilst you are on the internet so that you can safely browse and buy what you want without threatening your personal information.
